QE in Europe? No way!

September was a sour month for the TSX, along with mediocre results in markets world wide, but Andrew McCreath says there is no chance Mario Draghi will implement QE. In materials, McCreath says it might be a good idea to start investing quality materials, but only if you are looking to invest long term. For the moment however, outlooks for materials, especially gold, are quite foggy.

Hold on to your hats

Here’s what we’re looking at this morning: Chinese markets are closed for the National Day Holiday as the country celebrates its creation as the People’s Republic 65 years ago. Holidays tend to bring people out into the street and that was the case in Hong Kong where protesting continues. Despite those concerns, the Shanghai ended its best quarterly gain since the fourth quarter of 2009 +15.4%. The more broadly diversified Shenzhen also put in a decent performance +13.2%.
