Straight talk on investment fees

It’s hard to get straight answers on investment fees – unless, of course, you’re talking to Globe and Mail personal finance columnist and author Rob Carrick. Rob has been writing about personal finance for a couple decades and he knows just about every trick of the trade.

Canadians pay just about the highest investment fees in the developed world and he says we’re not making any ground in bringing those fees down or providing better disclosure. If you ask the average investor how much they pay in management fees, how they are derived and what they provide, most will likely shrug.

This Portfolio Builder attempts to shine a light on the dark world of investment fees and how alternatives like exchange traded funds stack up. It also looks at some of the hidden fees associated with tax free savings accounts.
