New extensions for stocks

As we transition to our new market data. The way we signify the exchange a stock trades on has changed as well. Here are some examples:

ABX.TO is the symbol for Barrick Gold trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange. But Barrick is inter-listed in the United States and can also trade on the following exchanges:

  • TSX – ABX.TO
  • NYSE – ABX.N
  • NYSE Arca – ABX.P
  • BATS Trading Inc – ABX.Z

BBRY.O is the symbol for BlackBerry trading on Nasdaq and BB.TO is the symbol for BlackBerry on the Toronto Stock Exchange, you can find BlackBerry on either exchange with the following symbols:

  • Nasdaq – BBRY.O
  • TSX – BB.TO

Keep in mind almost all U.S. exchange-traded funds are listed on the NYSE Arca and the Nasdaq Global Market – electronic exchanges that are more popular with high frequency traders -- instead of the standard version of each exchange. Our new market data makes it easier to see which ETFs trade on these electronic versions of U.S. exchanges. For example:

  • Powershares QQQ tracks the Nasdaq-100 and trades on the Nasdaq Global Market with the symbol QQQ.OQ
  • The iShares Global 100 ETF tracks the 100 largest global equities and trades on NYSE Arca electronic exchange with the symbol IOO.P

And if you’re looking for a TSX Venture Exchange stock like Spartan Energy, the ticker symbol would be SPE.V

  • TSX Venture Exchange – SPE.V
