The bad news for Research in Motion (RIM-T) is coming fast and furious in recent weeks. Rick Meslin, CEO of UBS Securities Canada Inc. and Head of Canadian Equities, tells BNN that what we're seeing is the end of a "competitive advantage" once held by the country's dominant technology company.
"It now comes down to whether they can innovate faster, and they're doing it from a real period of disadvantage now," he tells BNN. "They had a large strategic advantage with their hardware -- and their enterprise business has reoccurring revenues that are phenomenal -- but they did not innovate as fast as some of their competitors."
Meslin places much of the blame on the company's management, saying the company "has been a victim of hubris of management."
