Is 2012 the year the Euro dies?

European policymakers have spent most of 2011 finding ways to contain the region's growing debt crisis, which ensnared some of the largest European economies, such as Spain and Italy. Forex expert Wolfgang Koester tells BNN that 2012 will be the year the euro officially dies.

"Hopefully it's done in an orderly fashion," he says. "I think that's part of what this ECB easing does is buy them some time to create an orderly fashion dismantling of it."

Koester says that plans to create a fiscal union among member states will likely prove to be impossible and that will lead to countries abandoning the euro zone.

"I don't think they are going to be able to put a fiscal union together," he says. "You can do that in the good times, but you can't do it when some countries are doing well and others are not doing well at all."
