Africa set for broadband boom

The African continent often grabs headlines for all of the wrong reasons—war, famine, disease and corruption. But many investors think it’s rife with opportunities, pointing to the continent’s strong economic growth over the past decade.

Hurley Doddy, CEO of Emerging Capital Partners, tells BNN Africa is a good investment—particularly when it comes to the telecommunications and broadband sectors.

“When we started investing in Africa over ten years ago, 99 percent of the people didn’t have phones. Now over 400 million cell phones lines have been added in the last ten years,” he tells BNN. “Clearly it’s the fastest growing region in the world for telecommunications.”
