The equity markets have amply rewarded investors over the past year. But, as geopolitical tensions plague countries in North Africa and the Middle East—helping push oil prices to triple digits—many investors may be wondering if the rally is coming to an end.
BNN gathers a group of top portfolio managers and money managers for a closer look at what’s in store for equities in the coming year.
“We see the market continuing to move higher,” says Alec Young, international equity strategist, Standard & Poor's. Young says he’s focusing on, “industrials, technology and materials.”
“These sectors are all deriving at least 40 percent of revenues from overseas…we’re overweighting cyclicals and underweighting defensive sectors.”
Young says it’s easy to see what’s behind the tear in equity markets: China.
“The whole world has become a leverage China play,” he says.
