Canadian National Railway Co. (CNR-T), Canada's biggest rail carrier, said on Wednesday it plans to spend $1.7 billion in 2011 on track infrastructure, equipment and facilities.
CN said approximately $1 billion is earmarked for track, rail and bridge improvements and $500 million is budgeted for facilities, such as distribution centres.
Another $200 million will be spent on equipment such as new fuel-efficient locomotives and new freight cars. Over the past five years, CN said it has spent nearly $8 billion on capital improvements.
