A “golden age” for natural gas

A potent combination of strong demand for natural gas from China and cheap and abundant supplies may usher in what the International Energy Agency is calling a “Golden Age” of natural gas. Edward Kallio, director of gas consulting with Ziff Energy, talks to BNN why he sees natural gas playing a major role in the global economy for years to come.

“Directionally there is no question natural gas use is going to increase,” he says. “Economies are expanding, we’ve got huge growth in China and the rest of Asia…they’re use of natural gas is going to more than double between now and 2020.”

Kallio says fears over the controversial method of natural gas extraction—known as fracking—will not derail its future.

“Once regulators understand the industry I don’t see it being a problem…but it will cause delays,” he says.
