Canadian patent licensing firm Mosaid Technologies' fourth-quarter results topped market estimates, helped by strength in its wireless patents segment, but it forecast a softer first-quarter profit.
The Ontario-based company expects first-quarter pro forma earnings of 43-48 cents a share on revenue of $17.5-19.8 million.
The company expects pro forma net income of $2-2.12 per share in 2012, compared with $2.89 a share, a year ago.
During February-April, Mosaid earned $5.9 million, or 49 cents, compared with $8 million, or 69 cents a share, a year ago.
On a pro forma basis, the company earned 60 cents a share in the fourth quarter, topping analysts' estimates of 55 cents a share, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
Quarterly revenue rose 10 percent to $21.9 million, above market estimates of $20.8 million.
Separately, the company said the U.S. International Trade Commission had voted to begin an investigation of certain Cisco products based on complaints filed by Mosaid in May.
