Pengrowth pipeline ruptures in northern Alberta
Pengrowth Energy Corp. (PGF-T) said Monday it shut in a portion of its Judy Creek field in northern Alberta after one of its smaller pipelines ruptured on the weekend.
Pengrowth said a gathering line serving some of the field's wells ruptured on Sunday, spilling an undetermined amount of oil.
While there was a fire at the site of the rupture 23 km (14 miles) southeast of Swan Hills, Alberta, the company denied a report from the province's Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) that there had also been an explosion.
The ERCB said earlier that some of the oil had flowed into a creek, but the spill has been contained and there were no injuries.
Pengrowth said it has shut in about 3,000 barrels per day because of the line breach.
