Facing a $480-million unsolicited bid from rival patent licenser Wi-Lan Inc., Mosaid says the timing is opportunistic and it undervalues the company.
CEO John Lindgren tells BNN Mosaid has hired investment advisors, and its special committee’s view is that the current bid clearly undervalues the company. The circular from the company is expected to be released by September 7.
“We certainly are in a hot sector these days,” Lindgren says. “The Nortel auction started it all, and that valuation was extremely high on a per patent basis.”
Mosaid has more than 3,400 patents and applications, and Lindgren says that if the same per-patent metric close to the Nortel one, “you come up with some pretty big numbers.”
