The leaves are falling and that means it's time for the annual southern migration of the snowbird. You see them at the airports and you see them in their RVs heading for warmer climates.

Times have rarely been better for Canadian seniors who winter in the United States. It has been decades since the Canadian dollar has had this much buying power and post-meltdown housing prices are a bargain.

Canada's big banks have been doing some buying of their own -- snapping up dirt cheap banking assets with their big Canadian dollars and opening up branches of their own in the U.S.

One of those banks, Royal Bank of Canada, is reaching out to the snowbird market by co-ordinating cross-border services.

RBC is also offering some pre-flight tips including opening up a U.S. dollar trading account to hedge the loonie.
