National Bank has landed one of the world’s best-known bond managers, Bill Gross, to lead one of its fixed-income funds, the bank announced on Thursday.

Gross, co-founder and former chief investment officer of Pacific Investment Management Co (PIMCO), will become a manager of National Bank Investments’ Unconstrained Fixed Income Fund.

The 72-year-old is now a portfolio manager at Janus Capital Group, after a bitter departure from PIMCO in 2014.

"National Bank Investments has expressed confidence in me at Janus and in our ability to deliver for Canadian investors," Gross said in a statement. "I'm looking forward to our partnership and putting our best efforts to work for their investors."
