Because it's Valentine's Day -- lets look at romance in the workplace. Careerbuilder.com hired Harris Interactive to conduct a study of almost 7,800 full-time, non-government U.S. employees last November and the numbers show we're looking for love while on the job.
Thirty eight percent of respondents admitted to dating a co-worker at least once over the course of their career.
And while having employment in common, 17 percent of workers were willing to go back to the company well -- reporting dating co-workers at least twice in their career.
Dating above your pay grade isn't as uncommon as you might think. Harris Interactive learned that 18 percent of respondents admitted they dated their boss. But what might surprise you more is the breakdown on who is willing to date above their pay grade.
Almost 1-in-3 women said they were likely to date their boss -- or someone higher up the corporate ladder. Only 23 percent of men said they'd be willing to date someone who clearly was their superior in authority or pay.
Wall Street was second only to the restaurant industry for places to find love at work. Harris Interactive learned that almost half of those surveyed in the hospitality business said they dated someone from work. Not too far behind was the financial services sector.
If you drive a bus or climb a utility pole, you've got a pretty good chance of finding a mate, too.
And in a bit of a surprise, if you're looking for a little fantasy role playing tonight: forget playing doctor and nurse -- grab a pair of horn rimmed glasses and a pocket protector because you're more likely to find love in the server room than the emergency room.
Careerbuilder.com's Rosemary Haefner has some advice for those struck by cupid's arrow.
First, know the company's dating policy. If you choose to date someone at work, stay professional -- nobody wants to hear your cute names for each other. And draw boundaries between your work lives and personal lives. Discussions about where this relationship is going can wait until after hours.
