Cash is king: Jean Francois Tardif

With Europe's sovereign debt crisis far from over and the U.S. potentially slipping into another recession, Jean Francois Tardif, former manager of the Sprott Opportunities Hedge Fund, is playing it safe with his money.

"It's [my holdings in cash] probably about 70 percent," he tells BNN. "I [also] have some high-yielding stocks and I have some short term corporate bonds."

Tardif says investors need to prepare for a new normal regarding the return on their investments.

"I think 5 or 6 [return] percent for the next five years will be the market," he says. "5 to 10 percent is possible, but it's going to be above average, I believe."
