Natural gas prices a Molotov cocktail: Strategist

Natural gas investors have been anything but energized in recent months, as the price of the commodity continues to hover near all-time lows. But one strategist tells BNN now might be the time to place bets on natural gas.

John Licata, Chief Commodity Strategist at Blue Phoenix, says we may be setting ourselves up for a surprise increase in the price of natural gas, as supplies may be tight in the coming months and year.

ldquo;We’re forming a Molotov cocktail in the natural gas pit,” he says. “My view is that the price where we are…it’s uneconomical for some natural gas producers to continue to put rigs back to work.”

Licata says investors should look at companies like SM Energy (SM-N) and Frontier Oil (FTO-N) as ways to play the coming bull market for natural gas.
