Quebecor Q1 net profit falls on charges

Telecom and media company Quebecor (QBR.B-T) posted a 2-percent drop in first-quarter net profit, mainly due to certain charges.

Net income for the Montreal-based company was $34.3 million, or 53 cents per basic share, compared with $34.9 million, or 54 cents per basic share, a year ago.

Revenue rose nearly 5 percent to $990.5 million.

Adjusted income from continuing operations was 56 cents per basic share, compared with 67 cents per basic share, a year ago.
