Five new Walmart supercentre stores will open across Canada today. This is part of the retailer's expansion plans for the fiscal year 2015 that will see 11 stores opened by the end of the month. The projects include building new stores and expanding, remodelling or relocating existing stores.

The locations of the new stores are:

January 29 Openings

The news comes on the heels of Target Canada's decision last week to shut down all 133 stores it operated in the country due to severe losses in revenue.

Walmart Canada told BNN it has "nothing to announce regarding Target or other locations and can't speculate on future decisions," when asked whether the retailer plans to occupy any of Target Canada's store locations.

These completed real estate projects bring Walmart Canada's total store count to 394 stores, including 280 supercentres and 114 discount stores.

The supercentres may also be home to a pharmacy, vision centre, connection centre for wireless services, photo centre, portrait studio, Tire & Lube Express for automotive services, Good to Go! Lotto, McDonald's, and Western Union. This is in addition to its other departments within the store. CTV Two CTV News CTV News Channel BNN - Business News Network CP24
